Uganda’s transformation as envisioned in the national vision 2040 depends upon strengthening of key fundamentals that include Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation (STEI). These are aimed to address development challenges that include weak private sector, underdeveloped human resources, inadequate infrastructure, small market, lack of industrialization, underdeveloped services sector, underdevelopment of agriculture, among others. The country currently does not produce enough skilled engineers, technologists, technicians, and craftsmen to meet the required human capital. Additionally, the number of qualified students that are seeking engineering education in Uganda has grown tremendously over the years. This increase meant the qualified students were not absorbed by the then existing engineering schools and universities due to limited vacancies. This is the rationale behind the establishment of FoEAS.
